The Search Ch. 1-3

After finally finishing up chapters 1-3, I came away with a broader, yet at the same time, narrower view on search. What it is capable of, the motives and dollars behind it, how it works, what the government can do with it, and what was most interesting, its history.

The origins of Excite, Yahoo, Lycos, AltaVista were all interesting sections as I distinctly remember using every single one of these search engines. They all had their pros and cons and it seemed like none of them were perfect. I loved AltaVista for its translation service, Excite and Lycos for its search alternatives, and Yahoo for its directories, games, and free email. However, none of them compared to Google when I first tried it.
